SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES

I have seen men who struggled to pray even for 10 minutes, ladies who couldn’t even fast from 6- 10 a.m., men who were so lustful that they didn’t even have the time for the things of God. I’ve seen these people catch fire in a strange way and sustain the fire for years. Flipping the coin, I have seen a lot of people start well with God; you see their zeal for God and his house, their love for God especially on campus. They complete school, and it looks like the fire also completes with them. Great men don’t just fall at once; men with fire don’t just lose fire in a day; men with intense love for God don’t just lose their love in a day. It only happens when you ignore spiritual disciplines. Charles Spurgeon said, “Neglected closet is the source of all spiritual decline.” Funnily enough, the Holy Ghost will keep on cautioning you until you finally become dry. In the same vein, men don’t just rise in stature; there are protocols for rising in the spirit or catching the fire and sustaining it. The key thing doing the wonders here is spiritual discipline. I’ve seen another group of people who happily serve God, but their service in the vineyard is centered on activities, not the God of the activities. You see them always in church; in fact, they help plan services; you see them close to men and women of God, etc but they ignore spiritual disciplines. Sleeping in church doesn’t equate to spiritual discipline, nor does being close to the man of God. Dallas Willard said, “The soul is healed by being with God, not by doing for God." Satan is always happy with this kind of people because he knows that they’re neither hot nor cold. Your life actually depends on these spiritual disciplines. As long as you are a Christian, you need to give yourself to spiritual disciplines. Spiritual discipline is any intentional practice that trains your spirit or inner man to know God and to become like Christ. > [!SCRIPTURE] 1 Timothy 4:8 (KJV) > "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come." Just as an athlete trains and disciplines the body to be able to run a race, a Christian disciplines the inner man to position himself properly to run the Christian race. It’s sad that our concentration is only on physical exercise, which only profits a little, but the ones that have eternal value have been neglected. > [!SCRIPTURE] Romans 12:11 (NLT) > "Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord." You can only keep your spiritual fervor by engaging in spiritual disciplines. Let’s talk about some of the spiritual disciplines PRAYER You need to pray because it’s a sign of your total dependence on God. Do your very best to carry the habit of prayer, even if you have to set an alarm; please do, because it doesn’t make you less spiritual. In prayer lies strength, in prayer lies wisdom, in prayer lies the way to go about your business. No matter your caliber in life, you cannot neglect prayer. > [!SCRIPTURE] Luke 18:1 (KJV) > "And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;." Jesus gave us one of the hacks to staying strong in your spiritual life, and it is prayer. > [!SCRIPTURE] Daniel 6:3 (NIV) > "Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day." As great as Daniel was, he never neglected prayer. This is one of the reasons why Daniel was relevant in Babylon. You cannot outgrow prayer if you want to sustain your fire and still be useful in the hands of God. One of the signs that a man’s spirit is healthy or weak is his prayer life. Just as doctors say, drink water even when you’re not thirsty, drink prayer even when you don’t feel like praying, because we were made for prayer, by prayer, and of prayer. Donald S. Whitney said, “Prayer is not a way of getting what we want, but the way we become what God wants." ‭‭ THE WORD OF GOD By the word of God, you know what God says concerning every matter, whether people, sin, his work, etc. Knowing the mind and the will of God helps you to navigate your path in life. Eating the word of God always keeps your mind on God and matters concerning the kingdom, which helps in your transformation. Don’t treat the word of God as a last-minute addition to your schedule. Schedule your life around the word of God. > [!SCRIPTURE] Job 23:12 (NIV) > "Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food." The same way you need food to survive and grow healthily, you need the word of God to survive in this broken world, for it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. It’s the word of God that quickens us and causes us to be alive. Stay in the word and become one with the word that your profiting may be unto all. FELLOWSHIP In fellowship, we don’t wait for Him; we wait on Him. It’s sad that we know the Holy Spirit as one God far away from us who when we scream he hears us. We have not carried this consciousness that the Holy Spirit is a person who loves to have intimacy with us. The Holy Spirt is a person because He has a WILL (He can decide - 1 Corinthians 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.), EMOTIONS (He feels - Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.) and a MIND ( Romans 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God). The Holy Spirit wants to gist with you, advise you, tell you even the clothes to wear for dinner, etc. Even the “little things” matter to Him. As a child of God, have time for the Holy Ghost; make Him your friend and your gist partner. Intimacy or fellowship is like a love affair between you and your God where God rubs off on you and imparts Himself into you. In fellowship, God teaches men consecration, and God sets men apart for His own use. God trains you in a way that your destiny demands, which only He can open you up to. FASTING Fasting is abstaining from natural desires (food, social media, movies, etc.) for spiritual purposes. Fasting bruises the soul, and when the soul is bruised, power is released. > [!SCRIPTURE] Luke 5:33-35 (NIV) > They said to him, “John’s disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.” > 34Jesus answered, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them?35But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.” Jesus is the bridegroom, and the children of the bridegroom or bridechamber are the disciples. In our dispensation, we don’t just fast for breakthroughs, for jobs, marriages, etc but we fast because we have missed God - Luke 5:35. Fasting helps you to be sensitive to the things of the spirit. It also increases your spiritual capacity because it puts your flesh where it belongs. SUBMITTING TO SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY This is one thing we mostly ignore, but it’s very important in our walk as Christians. The attitude of nobody can tell me what to do will kill you if you don’t desist from it. You cannot walk in isolation in this Christian life; it’s not a solo path. We are the body of Christ, and so you will need the feet if you’re the hand, and you’ll need the eye if you’re the ear. You cannot walk alone, my dear, so humble yourself and be accountable to authorities. When you get to the point where nobody can correct you, know that you’re close to distraction because pride comes before a fall. > [!SCRIPTURE] Hebrews 13:17 (NIV) > "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you." IMPORTANCE OF SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE 1. It sustains your relationship between you and God: Disciplines like prayer, fasting, and studying the Word keep your relationship alive and keep you from drifting away. > [!SCRIPTURE] James 4:8 (NIV) > "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded." 2. It builds spiritual stamina and strength: Just like physical exercise builds your body, spiritual discipline builds your inner man to resist temptation. > [!SCRIPTURE] 1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV) > "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come." 3. It gives you direction and clarity: When you pray and study consistently, you hear God clearly and know His will. You don't live in confusion. > [!SCRIPTURE] Psalm 119:105 (KJV) > "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." 4. It produces a transformed life: Discipline kills flesh and builds the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, patience, self-control, etc. > [!SCRIPTURE] Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) > "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Galatians 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." 5. It positions you for impact and growth: A disciplined Christian grows fast, is reliable, and God can trust you with more. > [!SCRIPTURE] 2 Timothy 2:21 (NIV) > "If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work." CONCLUSION Donald S. Whitney said, “Spiritual disciplines are the God-ordained means by which we bring ourselves before God, so that He can transform us by His grace." Many still look back to the days when they burned brightly for God. Losing the fire is far easier than regaining it, so you must intentionally fan it into flame to keep it burning. Devote yourself to spiritual disciplines, for it is the path that never fails. Dennis Nemi

THE HAND THAT GIVETH

Our human nature is wired to receive much and give little. But by the grace of God, I come to awaken you to a lifestyle of giving. Jan Grace said, "Everyone can experience the joy and blessing of generosity because everyone has something to give.” This is to say, no matter how small it may seem, you have something in you, you have something you carry, you have something in your hands that you can give. Every giver is a replica of God because God is a giver. He is the first person who gave and showed us the technology of giving. He didn't just give anything but himself. He taught us the power and the blessedness of giving. God created the star, moon, and the sun, and they give us light; He created the sea, and it gives life to the fish; God created animals, and they give us meat, etc., so we can see that everything God created has the ability to give out something. This tells us that giving is "living". If you're living, then you're to give. > [!SCRIPTURE] John 3:27 (NLT) > "John replied, "No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven" Everything we have was given to us by God, and God sometimes demands it. He does it to see whether we can give back what He gave us. The people of Israel were slaves for 430 years in the land of Egypt. Egypt used God's people to build its empire, but a day came, and it was the payday for the people of Israel. God stripped Egypt of their gold and gave it to the Israelites. God had a plan for doing this. > [!SCRIPTURE] Exodus 25:2 (KJV) > "Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering" God gave the Israelites the gold of the land of Egypt because it would be needed for the building of the tabernacle, but these Israelites used some of the gold for the building of the golden calf instead. Abuse is inevitable when purpose is not known. Don't abuse what God has given you to be a blessing to others. Everything God demands from you, He has already provided, but He demands it to know the position of your heart. Child of God, know that God always gives you seed to sow and bread to eat. Make sure you don't eat your seeds when you're supposed to sow them because you'll need them in some days to come. Men are like soil (man was made from the dust of the ground, Gen 2:7) > [!SCRIPTURE] Genesis 2:7 (KJV) > "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." , and so when you sow into men they can grow, and you'll eat the fruits thereof. > [!SCRIPTURE] Genesis 8:22 (KJV) > As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, > summer and winter, day and night will never cease. Here, Scripture uses certain laws of life to teach us something. What Scripture is saying is that, so far as we're on earth, nothing can stop these things from happening. If there's seed time, then definitely there has to be harvest time. It means, when you give or sow, nothing can stop your harvest; you just need to give time sometime and you'll see your harvest. Don't let anybody preach you out of giving because there's a reward when you give. The hand that gives cannot be empty.   > [!SCRIPTURE] Philippians 4:19 (NIV) > "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." Apostle Paul was thanking God for the Philippian church because they gave, and he prayed for them that "his God shall supply all their needs according to His riches in glory". People always quote this scripture when they need something from God, and it's not bad, but it was a prayer Paul prayed for givers. The Lord supplies the needs of givers, not just Christians. > [!SCRIPTURE] Acts 9:36-39 (NIV) > In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. 37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. 38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!” > 39 Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. An interesting story happened here: Dorcas died, and the disciples and widows sent for Peter to come and raise her from the dead. These widows buried their husbands, but they wouldn't bury a giver; they just couldn't accept that a giver was dead. The believers buried other people but didn't want to bury a giver. Not only does God cherish a giver, but men also do, and their reward isn't only in heaven but also on earth. They called for Peter to pray a giver back to life. When you're a giver, you've people that are ever ready to intercede and lay down their lives for you. When you're stingy ... continue with it. John Wesley said, "Do you not know that God entrusted you with that money (all above what buys necessities for your families) to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to help the stranger, the widow, the fatherless; and, indeed, as far as it will go, to relieve the wants of all mankind? How can you, how dare you, defraud the Lord by applying it to any other purpose? Necessity is laid on us to give because we're to live for others and not ourselves. If Jesus gave His life for us, then we're to do the same by living for others.   > [!SCRIPTURE] Luke 6:38 (NIV) > "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." This scripture teaches us that if we want to see abundance, then giving is inevitable. In the "LORD'S PRAYER," we learn that one thing prayer does for us is to give us our daily bread, but if you want to see pressed down and running over, or abundance, then that's gained by giving. > [!SCRIPTURE] Acts 10:4 (MSG) > Cornelius stared hard, wondering if he was seeing things. Then he said, “What do you want, sir?” > The angel said, “Your prayers and neighborly acts have brought you to God’s attention. This means that by his prayer and giving, Cornelius caught the attention of God. Sometimes what prayer can do, giving can also do, and even more. You've prayed for a long time, but sometimes add giving to it, and a memorial will be raised in heaven for your sake. In other words, your giving is like a point of contact in heaven for you; God sees it, and He remembers you. When God remembers you, the next thing He does is to visit you.   WHY SHOULD WE GIVE 1. There's a reward > [!SCRIPTURE] Philippians 4:17 (NLT) > "I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness." 2. Givers never lack > [!SCRIPTURE] Proverbs 28:27 (NLT) > Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, > but those who close their eyes to poverty will be cursed. 3. There are blessings in giving. > [!SCRIPTURE] Proverbs 22:9 (NLT) > Blessed are those who are generous, > because they feed the poor. 4. You receive the visitation of God. > [!SCRIPTURE] Psalm 112:5 (NLT) > Good comes to those who lend money generously > and conduct their business fairly.   CONCLUSION You don't give to do God a favour, but you give because it's part of your kingdom responsibilities. > [!SCRIPTURE] Psalm 126:5 (NLT) > Those who plant in tears > will harvest with shouts of joy. When you sow or give, you bury the problem and resurrect your solution; this is the mystery behind sowing in tears and reaping in joy. Apostle Paul used how the church of Macedonia gave to exhort the Corinthian church and he said this in > [!SCRIPTURE] 2 Corinthians 8:7 (NLT) > "Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving." This is because giving sacrificially always ushers people into the treasury room of God, and in the treasury room of God, you don't just have things but God Himself. Billy Graham said, "God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with". May you not use just one hand in life but commit yourself to using both hands. PRAYER: I make a prayer for you that your hands will be expanded as you give. I pray that your hands will be hands that give. I pray that the Lord pushes you into the life of abundance as you make up your mind to give willingly in the name of Jesus. AMEN Dennis Nemi

THE UNSPOKEN REALITIES OF PRAYER

I want to bring to your notice the things we mostly don’t talk about as Christians concerning prayer. When you’re a baby in Christ, it looks like God answers every prayer of yours, but as you grow in your Christian faith, you realize that He stops “pampering” you. I believe God intentionally does that to teach us so many things about life and about Himself. Many believers see prayer as a communication, which is true, but prayer goes beyond that. Others see prayer as a weapon, which is true, but prayer goes beyond that. Others see prayer as a love affair, which is true, but prayer goes beyond that. Prayer is the life of a believer, and as life, sometimes, it is deeper than we think. We face things that are easy, situations that we don’t understand, circumstances that are difficult, situations that only God has the answer to, etc. … such is life. In the same vein, prayer can sometimes feel that way, where it looks like we don’t even understand prayer or God. It feels like prayer bounces back at us. It is on this premise that I want to look at the theme, "The Unspoken Realities of Prayer". These are 5 things I want to share with us by the help of God. 1. SOMETIMES PRAYER BRINGS TROUBLE. Many believers sometimes say that when I wasn’t serious with my prayer life, my life was fine, but the moment I became serious with my prayer life, my situation became sore. Understand that sometimes being serious with your prayer life is like declaring war in the spirit. The enemy will come at you because, to him, you want to prove stubborn, so he will start to throw weapons at you. It is your duty to fight till you win. The good news is that as believers, we fight from the point of victory. When you start praying about something, and you see that you’re being whipped in your dreams, attacks here and there, know that you’ve declared war, so there's no need to stop but keep fighting till you win. You’ve strength within you to fight any battle you declare, but more often than not, most Christians give up and allow the enemy to continue to possess that territory. Fight till you win. Daniel 6:10-16 Daniel’s habit of praying got him thrown into the lions’ den. His enemies used his prayer life against him. Prayer brought trouble, but God used it to display His power. Prayer brought about that attack or trouble but it’s that same prayer that can solve it. Keep on. 2. PRAYER DOESN’T ALWAYS CHANGE CIRCUMSTANCES, BUT IT CHANGES YOU. Sometimes, God's answer to our prayers isn't a change in situation, but a change in perspective, heart, or character. This can be tough to accept, especially when we're desperate for a specific outcome. Funny enough, it happens when we’re desperate for results. God knows that if your character or heart doesn’t change, the answer to your prayer can damage you, so He starts to work on it. You may be looking for results, but God may be looking for your survival. This is where the scripture Romans 8:28 comes in; all things work together for your good. Believe God that the situation won’t kill you but will mould you. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10: The thorns in the life of the Apostle Paul weren't removed, but he gained strength in weakness. God thinks about your sustenance more than just the answer to your problems. When you encounter a situation like that in life, know that God is working all things for your good, though not be easy to deal with but trust God and His process. There may be anger, lust, impatience, pride, etc that your maker is dealing with in you. Soren Kierkegaard said, “Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays." 3. ASKING QUESTIONS IS PART OF PRAYER The Bible is full of examples where people asked God questions. It’s very okay to ask God questions but do not question God. There’s what we call the prayer of inquiry in Scripture, and it is to investigate matters by the Spirit and in the Spirit. You should develop the attitude of asking questions: why answers to prayers have been delayed, why you’re going through hell, if you should enter that marriage or not, etc. Our doubts and uncertainties should move us to ask God questions, and for your information, God is very okay with that. Habakkuk 1:2-4: Habakkuk questioned God's justice but still waited on Him. 1 Samuel 30:8 And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. David also inquired of God concerning a matter, and God gladly gave him an answer. Feel free to ask God questions concerning your relationship, your next move in life, and God will be glad to answer. 4. PRAYER ISN’T ALWAYS ABOUT GETTING ANSWERS. Sometimes, prayer is about doing the will of God or finding peace, comfort, or endurance in the midst of uncertainty. God's presence or peace may be the answer you need, even if the situation doesn't change. Matthew 26:36-46 Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, not asking for the cup of suffering to be taken away, but for God's will to be done. Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For the joy that was set before Him, He had to endure the cross. The joy set before him made him go through the pain and suffering. After 13 years of Joseph going through pain, he understood that God sent him before his brethren to preserve lives. If the prayer of Joseph was for God to take him back to his father, it would have been a wrong prayer or God wouldn’t have answered the prayer not because God doesn’t hear prayer but because of the destiny of Joseph as a generational preserver. Sometimes the goal of prayer is not just for results but for grace to endure the pain, for the will of God to prevail, to have peace that makes no sense, and to have joy in chaos. Sometimes what you need is a go-through, not a breakthrough. It’s in the valley of the shadow of death that you learn to fear no evil. 5. GOD'S TIMING IS NOT OUR TIMING You need to settle this in your heart that God’s timing isn’t your timing. He sees what you cannot see, knows what you do not know, and hears what you cannot hear, and so His ways are past finding out. We often want immediate answers to our prayers, but God's timing may be different from ours. As believers, it’s expedient that we intentionally grow our patience and trust in the Lord, knowing that He's working behind the scenes. When you step into your waiting season, your patience and trust level is what can help you. It’s okay not to understand, but to wait and rest in God even when answers don’t come. From Genesis 15-21, Abraham and Sarah waited decades for a child God Himself promised. It came to pass, but not on their timeline. Let me make it clear here that it’s not every delay that is God’s time; sometimes the enemy may be behind it, and so you need to enter into a prayer of inquiry to be sure that it’s not the enemy behind your delay. Again, let me say that the fact that it’s God’s time doesn’t mean just be there and wait for it to happen. You need to pray it into being. God’s time is always the best; remember that. CONCLUSION God can be silent, and in the state of His silence, you need to trust Him and His process. When God is silent, it doesn’t mean He’s absent. Sometimes the best solution is to get to God, not just to get an answer. It’s your duty to trust God that all things will work together for your good. Charles Spurgeon said, “God is too kind to do anything cruel, too wise to make a mistake, too deep to explain Himself. WHEN WE CAN'T TRACE HIS HAND, WE MUST TRUST HIS HEART". Be strengthened “Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭12‬ ‭TPT‬‬ So be made strong even in your weakness by lifting up your tired hands in prayer and worship. And strengthen your weak knees.” ‭‭God Bless You Dennis Nemi

UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE

With the Bible so widely available, it’s hard not to wonder why so many Bible-believing Christians are still not Bible-reading Christians. Perhaps it’s because we’ve developed a “been there, done that” mentality. The Bible is now readily available to us, but we are not as available to it as we ought to be.  — Wendy Speake, The 40-Day Feast 1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Many believers fail to do the above because we do not know our Bible. When you probe further to ask, one of the common things believers say is that when I read the Bible, I don’t understand, and so I have stopped reading. There is the letter of the word and the spirit of the word; without the spirit of the word, the Bible will be like a graphic to you. That’s when you hear things like The Bible contradicts itself, The Bible was just written to deceive black people etc. There are no contradictions in the Bible if your eyes are trained to interpret the Bible accurately. Our lack of understanding has made us accept lies as truth and reject truth as lies. When I tell some believers that Christians and Muslims don’t serve the same God, they argue and it’s a clear sign that we don’t even understand the Bible and the God we serve. The Holy Spirit is here to help us. The conditions necessary to understand the Scripture are mainly hinged on these two: 1. The method 2. The person. We mostly talk about the methods but sometimes forget that the person’s preparedness to understand Scripture is also a big factor. This write-up seems to address the “person” factor. 1. Be born again or have a regenerated spirit. Your first step of understanding the Bible is to be born again. Man has a spirit and a soul and lives in a body. Man uses his spirit to make contact with God, uses his soul to make contact with the intellectual world, and uses his body to make contact with the physical world. A man that’s not born again is spiritually dead, which means his spirit man is not alive to the things of God. They are foolishness unto him. Without a regenerated spirit, the Bible is a closed book. A Muslim can read our Bible and even quote chapters offhead, he will still lack understanding because his spirit is not regenerated. Though he thinks he understands the Word he doesn’t. John 4:24 - God is a spirit so it takes a (regenerated or born again) spirit to worship, know and understand everything about God. The Bible is not just a documentation of letters but the root and nature of the Bible is that it’s a spirit. Matthew 13:11-15 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. The Bible cannot be understood through research or cleverness or natural talent but by the help of the Holy Spirit and if you’re not born again, the Holy Ghost has no business with you. 2. You must be spiritual: it’s one thing to be born again and another thing to be spiritual or influenced by the Spirit. 2 Cor 2:13 CSB‬‬ “We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people. Man’s wisdom and knowledge are limited to what we see, feel, hear and what the heart contemplates but being spiritual gives you the opportunity for spiritual things to be explained to you, for deeper things to be shown you. We have two types of believers: carnal believers (babes) and spiritual believers 1 Cor 2:15-17, 3:1-3. A carnal believer is a born-again Christian who lives in the flesh. He has not submitted his members fully to the Lordship of the Holy Spirit but a spiritual man is one who is led by the Spirit of God; God is first in everything he does. Just as you can’t explain some things for a baby to understand, that’s how it is in the spirit too. You need to yearn to be spiritual so that your heart can be opened for the Holy Spirit to interpret deep things of the Scriptures to you. 3. Read the Bible with care: Don’t read the Bible just to please your conscience that you’ve been reading your Bible. Don’t approach the Bible with I already know mentality. Be open-minded and be ready for the Spirit of God to teach you, don’t think you know it all, even if you’ve read that verse or chapter a 100 times. Don’t rush when reading your Bible; be intentional about it and pay attention to punctuation, words, brackets, asterisks, italics, etc., because all these have what they communicate in Scripture. For example, Psalm 23:6: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. We see a colon in there, and a colon is a punctuation mark used chiefly to direct attention to matter (such as a list, explanation, quotation, or amplification) that follows. This means until you’re ready to dwell in the house of the Lord forget that goodness and mercy will follow you. The colon in there has thrown more light on the verse for us; you can’t neglect these things if you really want to understand Scripture. Generally (not always) in the Bible, when sin is used in the singular sense, it speaks of our sinful nature or the root of sin but when used in the plural sense as sins, it speaks of the fruits of sin or actions of sin. It’ll take a careful reader to notice this. Don’t rush while reading your Bible and be ready to compare verses or chapters to help bring more light to you. 4. Obedience to the word: God expects us not to be just hearers of the word but doers of the word. The Bible is not just meant to be read or studied intellectually; it is meant to be lived. Heb 5:13-14 GNT: “Anyone who has to drink milk is still a child, without any experience in the matter of right and wrong. Solid food, on the other hand, is for adults, who through practice are able to distinguish between good and evil. You would understand by this scripture that practicing gives experience and experience helps you to understand. The more you live by God’s word, the more your spiritual discernment sharpens. John 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. Here, Jesus placed doing before knowing. Doing the word has a way of opening you up to the scriptures; it has a way of opening your spiritual eyes for truth to become more real to you. 5. Don’t be over-curious: Curiosity is needed when studying Scripture because it helps you to investigate and search the word, but know that where Scripture is silent, you should be silent too. Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. When Scripture has not revealed it, don’t venture. Questions like how old Mary was when she gave birth to Jesus, how many wives did Adam marry, etc aren’t really necessary. Harold Camping (1921–2013) was a Christian radio broadcaster and Bible teacher who was obsessed with understanding biblical numerology. He studied and later believed he had found a secret biblical code that revealed the exact date of Jesus’ return. He predicted that Judgment Day would occur on May 21, 2011. His followers sold their possessions, quit jobs, and even pregnant women aborted their babies because they didn’t want to appear heavy. They sang songs of praise for the whole day, but God didn’t show up. When the prediction failed, Harold Camping admitted that he was wrong, but many people suffered emotional and financial ruin. Over-curiosity has led some into heresies, into deception, into thinking that they have revelations no Christian has heard or seen before etc. The Bible is enough, and so what has been written and revealed should be enough for us. CONCLUSION Luke‬ ‭24‬:‭44‬-‭45‬ ‭GNT‬‬ “Then he said to them, “These are the very things I told you about while I was still with you: everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the writings of the prophets, and the Psalms had to come true.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. You need the Holy Spirit to help you understand the Bible because He is the author so cooperate with Him and light shall break forth unto you. Understand the Bible for yourself and save yourself from the errors unfolding in our age. GOD BLESS YOU Dennis Nemi

QUENCHERS OF FIRE

Leonard Ravenhill said "When you’re on fire, everyone knows it". In other words, fire cannot be hidden. Fire used in the scriptures is symbolic of several things such as; Holy Spirit, judgement, refiner, presence etc. For the sake of our discussion, fire will represent the presence of God. Every believer is designed to carry fire, that is to be empowered by the Holy Ghost. A believer carrying fire is someone having a devoted passion for the presence of God. Someone zealous for God and the things of God. One of the things that announces a believer in the realm of the spirit is the fire he carries. Because we're designed to carry fire, God expects every believer to carry fire. This is why God dislikes lukewarmness. Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. It talks about God spewing lukewarm people out of his mouth. God spewing you out of his mouth does not mean you'll go to hell, it means you cannot be useful in the hands of God. Don't let anybody preach you out of being on fire for God because they'll later come to you for help. As you're carrying your fire beware because some people and some things are “fire extinguishers and fridges”. The same way fire can be caught, it can be quenched too. WHY DO WE NEED FIRE 1. Fire purges / purifies / cleanses - Isaiah 6:5-7 Isaiah saw his sinfulness before a holy God and cried, "Woe is me!" Then a seraphim touched his lips with a live coal from the altar, and his guilt was taken away. Fire here pictures God's holiness burning away sin, guilt, and impurity, making us fit for His service. 2. Fire illuminates - Exodus 13:21 God led Israel through the wilderness with a pillar of fire by night. In darkness and uncertainty, fire gave direction and protection. Spiritually, God's fire guides us, showing us the way when we cannot see ahead. 3. Fire enlightens - Psalm 18:28 "You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light." Fire does not just show the path, it opens our understanding. The Holy Spirit enlightens our minds to understand Scripture and discern truth from darkness. 4. Fire warms the spirit - Luke 24:32 On the road to Emmaus, after Jesus explained the Scriptures, the disciples said, "Were not our hearts burning within us?" The fire of God's Word and presence rekindles cold hearts, reviving love, zeal, and devotion. 5. Fire consumes - Hebrews 12:29 "For our God is a consuming fire." God's fire destroys what cannot stand before Him: sin, pride, idols, and every work of the flesh. It is both judgment against evil and total devotion, calling us to offer ourselves fully to Him. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 Quench not the Spirit. Quench not the Spirit or the spirit fire but we know that if you ignore a flame, it'll go out. We want to look at some things that can quench the fire of God in us. ✓1. Little foxes: Song of Solomon 2:15 (NLT) Catch all the foxes, those little foxes, before they ruin the vineyard of love, for the grapevines are blossoming! Song 2:15 (YLT): Seize ye for us foxes, little foxes- destroyers of vineyards, even our sweet-smelling vineyards. The little foxes, "the little things" we do that we don't even pay attention to, that no one sees, that we see to be trivial, they matter. That lust building in you, the pride showing up that friends are telling you and you think they hate you, that secret sin that nobody knows about but it's eating you up gradually, that nobody can tell me what to do attitude, etc. All these, though very little, can destroy the vineyard of your relationships, the vineyard of your marriage, the vineyard of your connections, the vineyard of your spiritual life, etc. Gal 5:9 KJV A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. Interestingly, the Greek root word for the word foxes is shô‛al which means handful. This is to say, though we might think it's little but it's not, it's a handful, so much attention needs to be channeled to it and to deal with it else it's just waiting for the appropriate time to expose you. One of the dangers of little foxes is that they have the ability to gradually siphon your hunger and fire for the Lord. John 12:6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. Judas had a love for money and was even stealing from Jesus until one day his love for money made him betray his Messiah for just 30 pieces of silver. Elijah performed 16 miracles, Elisha performed 32 miracles (double portion), Gehazi was supposed to perform 64 miracles but he ended up carrying leprosy because of his love for material things. The little foxes destroy the vine of destiny. These little foxes are inward and we mostly don't pay attention to them. Sometimes, it'll even take the Holy Ghost to draw your attention to it coz it can be so silent in you, waiting for a perfect time to show up. Why do you think when some people are poor, they are chaste but when they have some level of riches, then all of a sudden they become womanizers? It's not that they have changed, NO money came to expose the foxes inside of that man. Little foxes just wait for big opportunities and then they show up big time to destroy. Let's allow the Holy Ghost to help us deal with them before it is too late. ✓2. Flesh and/ Self: flesh is the affections and desires that are contrary to God or the corrupted and transmuted body. This flesh was not created by God but is a mixture of God’s creature and sin. The flesh always battles with the spirit because the flesh wants to show up and do what it wants. The flesh wants comfort and does things contrary to the word of God. This statement has killed many Christians and buried the potential of many... "the flesh is weak" and "you know we're human beings". The Lord says, wake up at dawn and make prayers for 30 mins each day for one month because there's a certain kind of anointing I want you to contact, but we say the flesh is weak. We end up not doing what the Lord asked us to do that's why we are still at the same level till now. SELF: Self is the inner man that was corrupted by the fall of man. According to Scripture, even after salvation, "self" must die. When we yield to Christ, we must reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive to God so that Christ can have His way in our lives freely. The new self is being renewed into the image of Christ, yet the new self is not what we are to glory in, but Christ. Here, the believer understands “Not I but Christ.” Isaiah 14:12-14: Lucifer used five "I"s (self) when he wanted to ascend the throne of God. When self comes into the picture, selfishness and pride are inevitable. You're somebody now by the grace of God and because of the position and money you have; now, even your parents, you don't honour them. By the grace of God, you can prophesy small, and because of that, all the fathers are not spiritual. David became the greatest king and won many battles, but during the time kings went to war, he stayed at home. It was war that made David who he was, a great king, but greatness made him forget where the Lord took him from. Sometimes forgetting where the Lord took you from can be why you'll fail because pride begins to set in. David won several battles, but after sleeping with Bethsheba, he didn't achieve any better thing, even building the temple God didn't allow him to build because his hands were full of the blood of Uriah. Child of God, don't forget where the Lord took you from. When greatness begins to come your way, don't let self dominate when the Lord is helping you. ✓3. Distractions: Proverbs 4:25 (MSG) Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Distractions have a way of diverting your course or purpose towards something. Distractions may not necessarily be sinful but have the capacity to divert your course; sometimes it can even look spiritual. On the path of destiny, there are a lot of side attractions, but when you fall for them, they become distractions. In 1 Kings 13 (you can take time and read it), there was a young prophet who cried against the altars in Bethel, and there was a clear sign that God was with him. God charged him not to eat or drink until he returned home, but this young prophet was distracted by something that looked spiritual. An old prophet came and told this same young prophet, whom God had charged not to eat, to rather eat and drink. The young prophet hearkened to the voice of the old prophet and ate. Right after eating, the word of God came to him by that same old prophet, and the end of the story was that a lion devoured the young prophet because of his disobedience. As spiritual as it was, but it got him distracted. Some people were very spiritual until they had a beloved; some ladies were very spiritual until they gave birth; others were God-conscious until they had money. Money, marriage, and friends are not distractions unless they begin to shift your focus from God. In Matthew 19:28, Jesus promised his disciples that they'll sit on 12 thrones to judge the twelve tribes of Israel in the world to come. Judas Iscariot was distracted by 30 shekels of silver and so instead of sitting on a throne to judge the tribes of Israel, he was distracted by just 30 shekels of silver. You were doing well in life until you met a friend who has contributed to the decline of your life. Even men can also be distractions; let's open our eyes to see distractions and avoid them. Sometimes your parents can even be distractions and can hinder your breakthrough. Have we not seen parents who prevent their children from fasting while the children know clearly they've to fast? God, open our eyes to see distractions on our way into destiny. ✓ 4. Ignorance and Negligence: Hosea 4:6 Because of ignorance or lack of knowledge, people are quenching their fires. Some people are ignorant of the fact that some things can quench their fire, and sadly they've embraced those same things. Little did "the prodigal son" know that taking his possessions and leaving the house was rather going to drain him and bring him to nothing. Little did the young lady know that the relationship she called nice and fun was rather killing her slowly. King Solomon was ignorant of the fact that, though he had wisdom and could write proverbs and wise sayings, marrying 700 women and having 300 concubines would cause him to serve other gods - 1Kings 11:3. He started well with God, but women pushed him away from God. Others are also very careless about their spiritual fire, and so anything is just okay for them. Worldly songs cannot help you guard that holy fire, but they'll tell you, " Oh, it's nothing; you don't know how that's gradually draining your fire". Sampson was careless about his spiritual fire until his hair was shaved. He knew exactly what Delilah was planning to do, but negligence led him to his grave. People of God, we need to be aggressive, conscious, and focused to protect and guard the holy fire in us. We can't let our guard down and lose our spiritual investments. The spiritual life of some people is on and off; today they're on fire, and tomorrow they're down because of negligence. To them, everything goes, but that's not how investments and stamina are gained in the spirit. You fast for months, and you can see your spiritual senses are active, and that guy who has lied to you that after all we'll marry so we can have fun, have sex with you. She can even bear witness to herself that you're spiritually drained. Five virgins were called foolish because they were negligent or careless about the fact that they'd need extra oil. Can we vow to ourselves this day that we'll do everything we can, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to guard the fire in us? The excuses are too many; God will certainly forgive you, but you cannot go far in the spirit because you have no fire. Sleep is good, but don't let sleep strip you of your spiritual investments. At first you were on fire, what has happened to you now? At first you were very sensitive, but what happened? At first you were very prayerful, but what has happened to you now? But the good news is that you can go back and carry fire; it's not too late. ✓5. Association: 1Co 15:33 ISV: Stop being deceived: “Wicked friends lead to evil ends.” Association or friendship has a way of quenching one's fire. Pro 27:17 EasyEnglish: People learn from each other, as an iron tool makes iron sharp. Association has a rubbing effect, and so you'll definitely contact something from the association you find yourself in. Every association has an aura it carries, and you'll definitely be a partaker of it. You'll either be affected positively or negatively; you're either drained or charged up. Surround yourself with people who are on fire for God, and you won't go out of fire. One of the mistakes I find young people make these days is that people who are on fire date people who can quench fire; it's just a matter of time before you're dry. We cannot joke with association because it has a way of adding up our fire or quenching our fire. Have you not seen people who got in touch with some spiritual fathers or mentors and now their godly standards are no more? When you're associated with Jonah, you'll definitely meet the storms, and when you're associated with Joseph too, your dreams will definitely be interpreted. Sampson had an association with Delilah and his fire was quenched, Adam and Eve associated with the serpent and we know the story. Association is key if we want to sustain fire. Please, we shouldn't forget that if we want to continually carry the fire of God then we cannot do away with the "little things" - prayer, the word of God (both the written and spoken word), fellowship, fastings etc. By these, the fire of God is stirred up daily in us. By these, you gather wood into the fire so that the fire isn't quenched. Jeremiah 20:9 (NLT) But if I say I’ll never mention the LORD or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it. When your fire is being quenched, what do you have in you that can remind you of the path you're taking? Remember the spiritual exercises you gave yourself some time ago and rise again, child of God. It's not too late; you can start again. CONCLUSION 1Th 5:19 KJV Quench not the Spirit. In other words, quench not the fire in you. If we ignore the Holy Ghost, we'll quench the spirit fire. We have a part to play in continually fanning the fire in us into flames. We cannot ignore the flame and expect the fire to burn. Leviticus 6:13 (NLT) Remember, the fire must be kept burning on the altar at all times. It must never go out. I came to remind us with this write-up in case we've forgotten, in case we're negligent, in case we're ignorant of the fact that we're to guard the fire we carry. John Wesley said, "I set myself on fire, and people come to see me burn". May a time not come in our lives where we will say at first I was on fire, but now even the ashes cannot be found. MAY THE LORD HELP US AND GOD BLESS YOU. Dennis Nemi

LEGAL MATTERS IN PRAYER

Man is tripartite in nature; spirit, soul and body and by the spirit of man he makes contact with the spiritual world, by his soul he makes contact with the intellectual world and by his body, he makes contact with the physical world. Life is both physical and spiritual but the full benefit of life can be consistently achieved when the spirit is employed. This life is founded on laws so just as there are laws in the physical world, there are laws in the spirit too. We're dealing with legal matters in prayer today and we shouldn't forget that prayer is a spiritual thing because the basic definition of prayer is a communication with a man and his deity. There's the need for us to understand these legal matters or legalities so that our prayer lives can be fruitful. We're redeemed of God, washed by the blood but still some are struggling with masturbation, curses, attacks, unanswered prayers etc. and have prayed about them for long but they are still not seeing results because of legalities. 2 Corinthians 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. When a law is violated, Satan has an advantage and the Greek word for advantage is pleonekteō which means to defraud or gain over or to cheat. So when a law is violated, Satan uses that to cheat you of your breakthrough and your testimony. You not praying, there is a law you're breaking in the spirit, you waiting till you do last minute prayers there's a law you're breaking, you look spiritual on the outside but very immoral, there is a law you're breaking and Satan will have an advantage over you. So when you see people living a life that pleases God, it's because they understand legal matters in prayer. Isa 62:6 YLT 'On thy walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen, All the day, and all the night, Continually, they are not silent.' O ye *remembrancers* of Jehovah, Keep not silence for yourselves. The Hebrew word for the word remembrancers is zâkar which means to enumerate or recount. In the law court, though judges know the law, the lawyers have to remind them of the law. You want God to give you a husband, what do you have in your hands that you can base on to remind God about. Emotions don't matter in the law court, in the same way your emotions won't move Him but your words will. Taking His words back to him that this is what your word said so do that for me. If you're ignorant of the scriptures, you may be handicapped in the law court of heaven. Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. Satan is the accuser of the brethren so he never accuses without evidence thus, when you're ignorant of the word of God you'll always be in trouble. For example: when you've to study for an exam but you don't study, depending on the fact that grace will write or speak for you. You'll fail on the basis of legal matters because you've broken a law in the spirit. Grace does not support laziness but when you study and you forget or what you studied didn't come, there are scriptures you can invoke and God will have no choice than to assist you. John 14:26 - when you've forgotten you can pull this clause and when you don't know too you pull out this scripture John 7:15. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse in the spirit. Ignorance is the strength of the oppressor. It gives the enemy strong legal grounds to operate. Your knowledge in the word of God is your advantage because you can't use an illegality to negate a legality. We want to look at the place of some spiritual verities legally in the place of prayer. We'll touch on a few. 1. THE POWER OF WORDS In the court room we don't speak love but facts. What are the facts you're presenting that you think because of that the judge of the university should hear you out. What facts and proofs did you come with. Isa 41:21 NET “Present your argument,” says the LORD. “Produce your evidence,” says Jacob’s king. This is why it's necessary for every believer to read the Bible for him or herself because you'll need it to produce your evidence. When you want to pray about finding a life partner, sit down and get scriptures about that and then go to God in prayer. Tell Him this is what your word says and this is my evidence then He can rule in your favour. I hear people say that there's no need to pray or pray for long because your heavenly Father knows forgetting the law of asking (Matthew 7:7). In the law of asking, we produce our evidence to God. The law of asking Matt 11:22-15. Even though your heavenly Father knows what you need (Matthew 6:8) but you'll still need to ask Him. As Christians, we need to be careful of the negative words we say because the enemy uses them as evidences against us. We cannot underestimate words because they are used to stir up our spirits or push our spirits down. Words are powerful and one thing that Satan does is that, since he can't speak for you, he'll massage your emotions so that you can declare your own doom. Your problem is your mouth, your words are your own trap. Life is hard, marriage is a scam, I'm hustling for life, all men are the same nothing better, etc. The enemy will harvest your words and use them against you because there's a law in the spirit that says you sow what you reap. Your advantage is the word of God, don't joke with it. Speak the word of God always even when you see the opposite. 2. PRACTICAL RIGHTEOUS LIVING Righteousness is having the right standing with God. There are two kinds of righteousness: (a) legal righteousness or righteousness as a gift - Romans 5:17 and (b) vital righteousness or righteousness by conduct - 1 John 3:7 1 John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. Now let me say that being righteous is the reason you must act righteously. Practical righteous living or righteousness as a conduct matters when you stand to argue your case in prayer, in the court of heaven. Scripture said obedience is better than sacrifice and prayer we know is an act of sacrifice. Sacrifice alone isn't enough. It should be sacrifice coupled with obedience so you pray and obey what the word of God says. An example is; 1Pet 3:7 KJV Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. Treating your spouse well is part of the practical righteous living but when it's not done and you stand in the court room of prayer, it can affect your prayer by hindering the results of your prayer. Again, there are prices to pay when you want to touch the eye of God. You may be praying for the mantle of Elijah and in the spirit it may be that one of the prices to pay to be able to contact the mantle of Elijah is purity. If you’re an immoral man, you cannot receive such a mantle because you don’t meet the demands of the mantle. This is where practical righteous living matters in the place of prayer. If you breach an authority in the spirit, you expose yourself to violation of legalities eg. treating your spiritual or biological parents anyhow, it can affect you. So yes you're legally righteous and God hears you when you pray and all but I tell you *sometimes* only your legal righteousness wouldn't matter unless the vital righteousness also comes in. 3. VOWS (When you make a vow, does it have a place legally in prayer) A vow is a sacrifice and a promise in response to what you want Him to do for you. Someone can make a vow to God to offer some gifts, abstain from certain things, sow into a ministry etc. all these are forms of sacrifices. It shows your intention concerning the matter. Sometimes when you want to sustain your breakthrough you need to make a vow. 1 Sam 1:11, Judges 11:30-31 Vows are made by choice , nobody should be forced to make a vow but it's expedient to do it in faith. God is a keeper of vows, He will do what you asked of Him and so He expects you to do what you said you would. Vows involve greater accountability and solemnity than promises. You don't really see vows in the new testament and I'll explain why. The new testament was silent on vows because Jesus fulfilled all the requirements regarding prayer so though vows work in this dispensation of grace, it's not mandatory. MERCY We have an advantage as believers even when legally we are guilty, and the key is mercy. Mercy is compassion in action toward someone in misery who does not deserve it. It is not just feeling pity. It is God stepping in to withhold the judgment we deserve and give the help we need. Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Mercy is one key law one can use to override legalities. Luke 18:10-14 - Two men went to the temple to pray, one bragged about what he could do and the other asked for mercy and scripture said he went home justified rather than the other. CONCLUSION Sin has wages or consequences but when a man understands the law of mercy, he can escape the consequences. You may not have enough words to defend yourself in the court room but have mercy, you may not be that righteous by your conduct but have mercy, you may not even know what to do or say but have mercy. If you're ignorant about anything, don't be ignorant about the mercies of God. Mercy has a voice and it can speak for you. Dennis Nemi

THE WEAPONS OF A BELIEVER

2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; I want us to talk about the armor of God as a weapon and other general weapons of the Christian faith. Weapon is any offensive or defensive tool for arm war. Sometimes the kind of battle you're dealing with determines the kind of weapon to use and also you can combine weapons and use them. Isaiah 59:17 The armour of God is God's own weapon that he uses and we're privileged that God has granted us the opportunity to use his armour. Concerning weapons, we have both defensive and offensive weapons. The reason for the armour is for you to have the power or dunamis to stand against the wiles of the devil. Exo 15:3 KJV The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. If the God we serve is a man of war then we his representatives on earth are people of war too. If that's the case then we need to know the weapons we can make war with. When you put on the armour, you are able to withstand the enemy, you maintain your victory grounds and when the enemy shows up in your camp, you deal with him. Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; Ephesians 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: * 1.Belt of truth The belt of truth is the word of God, the written word of God (the logos) and it keeps the rest of the pieces together. The sword is kept on it when not in use, it keeps the breastplate and the shield of faith intact. If your belt is intact the other pieces are also intact. This is to say, the more you receive the word, the more the rest of the pieces are secured. John 8:32 The truth is the word, so knowing the truth exempts you from bondage, this is a weapon that sets free. The belt of truth is made in such a way that it covers your reproductive organ when you wear it and so it makes you fruitful and productive. The belt of truth is a weapon that fights against barrenness and dryness. * 2.Breastplate of righteousness The breastplate is a defensive tool used to protect the heart and vital organs within. The devil targets your heart or conscience with guilt, offences, condemnation, faults etc. After the death of Jesus, the authority that Satan had was stripped off him and so what he's left with now is deception. What he does now is that, he comes to you and accuses *you* to *you* because he knows he can't accuse you to God because of the blood. 1 Peter 5:8 The Greek word for the word "adversary" is antidiokos from two words anti and dikos. Anti means against and dikos means righteous. This is to say the enemy is against your righteousness so he'll do everything possible to condemn you so that you conclude on yourself. This is the reason why you always need your weapon called the breastplate of righteousness on. 2 Cor 5:21 Accepting Jesus as your Lord and savior, you become the righteousness of God thus Christ becomes your righteousness. You now have the right standing with God, Christ has taken your place and so God sees you in His son. This mentality, this consciousness, this ideology should be built in you. Your breastplate helps you to conquer every *battle of the heart or conscience* especially when the enemy comes to condemn you. * 3.Shoes of the gospel of peace Your feet shod with the gospel of peace doesn't only mean readiness to propagate the gospel but being rooted and grounded in the gospel. This becomes a weapon because you cannot be tossed to and fro by any wind of doctrine. John 14:27 We have what we call, peace of God and peace with God. When you become born again, you gain peace with God but you can be a believer and not have the peace of God. The peace of God is when you're not alarmed and moved by what's going on around you because your inner man is still. You rest in the promises of God. The shoe of the gospel of peace as a weapon gives you peace with God and of God and so tribulations, trials, temptations, crisis, hard times, storms don't move you because you've a weapon that deals with it. * 4.Shield of faith The shield of faith is another potent weapon that every believer needs to put on. Hebrews 10:38 The reason why scripture said the just shall live by faith is because God knows that you cannot survive when you want to live by the flesh. The kind of battles you'll deal with you can't survive without faith and faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God Romans 10:17. The shield of faith is a shield for daily living. Some of the shields are polished shields and others are also dipped in water so that it'll be able to quench the fiery darts of the enemy. This is to say that your faith must always be prepared, don't live it dry because your shield of faith can catch fire when not dipped into water. The water in this case is the word of God, you always need to dip it into water because the enemy can come in at anytime when you least expect, and when your shield (faith) isn't prepared for battle, you'll have issues. Pro 24:10 KJV If thou faint in the day of battle or adversity, thy strength is small. The enemy will try to bring fears your way; fear of the future, fear of marriage, etc. but if your shield of faith is intact, it settles it. Sometimes it's sad how we can fear with all intensity but we can't have faith with all intensity. If you've the ability to fear then you've the ability to stir up faith. * 5.Helmet of salvation The helmet is a weapon that protects the head from injuries. The moment you're born again, your salvation becomes a weapon to you. 1 Thess 5:8 The helmet of salvation has to do with the hope of salvation which is the assurance of salvation and security of salvation. Assurance of salvation answers the question "are you saved?" whilst security of salvation answers the question "will you be saved?". The enemy always comes in with battles of condemnation and fear of losing your salvation but when your weapon, the helmet is in place, the enemy cannot win that battle. Your helmet of salvation should be that you're secured about your salvation and that every blessing in the salvation package is yours. There's nothing you will do to reduce God's love for you and there's nothing you'll do to increase his love for you, so don't let the enemy condemn you that because of that sin you sinned you're no more God's child. Every believer needs to understand this whole salvation package that will make your helmet intact. The enemy has succeeded in defeating people without their helmet of salvation to make them think that there's no life after death, that God even hits to see them when they sin etc. Put your weapon on, you need it always. * 6.Sword of the spirit The word of the spirit as a weapon is the word of God but this is the rhema word of God (spoken word of God). The belt of truth is the logos and the sword of the spirit is the rhema, that's why the sword when not in use, hangs on the belt. This is to say out of the logos comes the rhema. Heb 4:12 This weapon called the word of God is very powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword and has the ability to pierce and divide sensitivity matters of the mind and heart. This weapon helps you to make both physical and spiritual battles. We need to intentionally read the word and meditate on it, that's the only thing we can do to secure the sword of the spirit because you can't use any weapon you don't have. Grow in the word. ¶ General Christian weapons * 7.Sounds (Shouts or noise or music) Isaiah 9:5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire. 1 Chronicles 14:15, Here, we can see that sound gave them a signal that the Lord has gone before them to make war. This is to say that your sound moves God into action. Isaiah 9:5 Are you a warrior? then you can't afford to joke with sounds. In the ancient times, warriors were taught how to fight and roar like lions at the same time, that's why scripture says that the battle of a warrior is with confused noise. The noise which is like the roar of a lion that he makes can just make you confused and so defeating you becomes easy. Sound is a weapon in the spirit which confuses the enemy and makes him tremble. Sometimes it saddens my heart when we come to church and we're asked to give a Lord a shout and you see people just standing, little do they know that they're making use of a weapon. (We will delve deeper into music another time) * 8.Silence Ecclesiastes 3:7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; Charles Spurgeon said and I quote " priceless as the gift of speaking may be, the practice of silence in some aspects far excels it". Many have not mastered the act of silence, it has a way of confusing your enemy because he doesn't know your next action. Psalm 46:10 In silence or stillness is where you just relax and watch what the Lord will do to your enemies. Silence has a voice and the Lord understands the voice of our silence and so He comes through for us when the need be. * 9.Praise Praise is a physical or vocal expression of our sincere appreciation to God for all the wonderful blessings He has provided for us. Praise is not necessarily songs. Psalms 8:2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. Psalm 8:2 (NHEB) From the lips of children and infants you have established praise, because of your adversaries that you might silence the enemy and the avenger Psalm 8:2 KJV & NHEB - KJV used strength and NHEB used praise, this is to say that praise is strength. Praise is a weapon of strength that gives us the ability to silence the enemy. If there are so much voices speaking in your life, the voice of poverty, the voice of lack, the voice of failure etc. by praise as a weapon you can close or silence all of them. Don't wait till you come to church before you make use of this weapon, make use of it always. * 10.Words Psalms 120:7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war. The word "they" here speaks about words, his words are for war. That means words are weapons. Words are powerful, don't just use your words for proposals and for less important stuff. Isaiah 54:17 by your words you either condemn or you allow. Use your words to allow the allowable and condemn the condemnable Numbers 22:6 Balak knew the power of words as a weapon so he sent for Balaam to come and curse the children of Israel so that he'll be able to prevail against them. Use your words wisely because they're weapons, your words can build and ruin. Always say positive things into being, speak positive stuff into you finances, marriage, destiny etc. don't join social media to utter negative stuff. Remember, your words are weapons and as weapons, use it to pull down negative words of the enemy not to add up. * 11.Knowledge (Revelation) Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. Knowledge is a weapon that immunes people from destruction. A lot of people have landed into battles of poverty, curses etc. because of ignorance and in the spirit, ignorance is not an excuse. In 2 Kings 6:8-23 the Aramean soldiers attacked the prophet Elisha that even his servant feared but the prophet wasn't moved because he knew something that his servant didn't know. He knew that they that were with him were more than they that were with them. The revelation or knowledge he had, caused him to win the battle in the end. Pro 19:2 NET It is dangerous to have zeal without knowledge, and the one who acts hastily makes poor choices. We say that knowledge is power, this a weapon too. * 12.The blood of Jesus Christ Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. The blood of Jesus has the speaking power and so it speaks better things than the blood of anything. When you have it as a weapon, you're in charge. Revelations 12:11 It also has an overcoming power and so when you use the blood as a weapon, your victory is inevitable. Not only these, it also has a preservation power Exodus 12:23 When the Lord passed through to smite the first Borns of the Egyptians, the Israelites were exempted because of the blood. The blood of Jesus is a potent weapon if only we can master it's usage. * 13.Service Numbers 20:28, Aaron was the first high priest of Israel and because of his service he was given the high priest garment and nothing could touch him because of the priestly garment he was wearing. When the priestly garment was removed, death was able to conquer him. All along death was hovering around him but his service as the high priest was like a weapon shielding him. Even when Aaron and Mirriam spoke ill of Moses, Mirriam was struck with leprosy but Aaron was free because his service as the high priest was a weapon preserving him. Take your service in the house of God seriously because service has a way of giving you a covering that maybe your prayer wouldn't give. Isaiah 38:3 And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. In Isaiah 38 King Hezekiah received a message of death and what he did was just to evoke the weapon of service. Even God changed his mind when the weapon of service was used. Your service is your weapon. * 14.Testimony Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Testimony is a weapon because it has the ability to cause you to overcome. It's a weapon that helps you to conquer and also stirs up people to conquer. When people see you use your weapon of testimony, something is stirred up in them to use theirs too. They believe that as the weapon worked for you, it'll work for them too. Again, testimony as a weapon has a way of stirring up your faith to conquer your faith and to fight the battle that has scared you for years. * 15.The Name of Jesus Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; The name of Jesus is a weapon, when this weapon is invoked every battle has to end because every knee must bow. Scripture says that whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved or delivered. This is to say, the name of Jesus is a weapon that brings deliverance. The name of Jesus carries so much authority that nothing can rebel against the name. As a child of God, you’ve right to use the name so be bold when using it. Proverbs 18:10 The name of Jesus is a strong tower and a tower is a defense and in this case a strong defense or hiding place. When the devil wants to harass you quickly run into the name. Running into the name is simply changing location, so if family altars are fighting you just change location. * 16.Men (in the generic sense) Jeremiah 51:20 Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms; Men are battle axes or weapons of war. So when God wants to solve the battle of poverty in a family, he sends a man. I hear people sometimes say that why at all did an African parent give birth to him or her whilst a white person could. The answer is simple, God saw a need (war) and He knew that you're the weapon that can settle that battle and so he released you. The battle that you're going through that you think it's too much for you, a man (weapon) can be released and the battle will end in that hour, this is why Paul said "know no man after the flesh" coz in the spirit, some men are weapons of war. Not all men are mere men some are weapons, that's why you need to honour and respect men. Jacob cursed Reuben and Reuben amounted to nothing until Moses showed up and reversed the cursed that let Reuben live and not die. Men are weapons * 17.Growth or maturity 1 John 2:13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. 1 John 2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. Here, we've three categories of people here, fathers, young men and children. Your spiritual maturity is what will place you in one of these ranks. Children grow to become young men and young men also grow to become fathers. According to the scripture the reason why children cannot overcome the enemy but the young men can is simply because of maturity. Maturity then becomes a weapon in the spirit, this is why every christian must grow because if you don't grow spiritually there are battles you can't conquer. Let's yearn to grow. * 18.Wisdom Wisdom as a weapon is very necessary because it's a principal thing. Ecclesiastes 9:14 There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: Ecclesiastes 9:15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. We can see in this scripture that by the wisdom of the poor man, the whole city was delivered. This wisdom is not the wisdom of this world but wisdom from above. Earthly wisdom isn't a potent weapon because it's limited but the wisdom from above is a great weapon. It's engineered by the Holy Spirit so it does not fail. Eccl 7:12 Wisdom is a defence * 19.Prayer Luke 22:40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. Prayer as a weapon is deeper than we can think. Daniel conquered opposition by prayer, Elijah silenced the mouth of the prophets of baal through prayer, through prayer Peter escaped death. * 20.Fasting Esther 4:16 All the Jews were about to be wiped away, that was the battle confronting them but they activated the weapon of fasting and they conquered. Matthew 17:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. Fasting is a potent weapon for every believer because there are battles that without the weapon of fast you cannot win. Fast, you won't die. * 21.Angels 2 Kings 19:35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. The background story of this verse is that, the Assyrians wanted to make war with the Israelites and King Hezekiah made a prayer to God and God sent forth an angel to smote the Assyrian army. Now, in Hebrews 1:14 angels are ministering spirits sent forth to minister(serve) them who shall be heirs of salvation (believers). Angels are weapons for believers and we can deploy them during battles. Don't let your angels rest, give them some work to do. They are weapons, use them to make war. By faith in Christ Jesus you appropriate all these weapons to work for you. All these weapons are at your disposal as a believer and it's your duty to use them. As you do your part, God then can also do his part too so that your victory can be assured. CONCLUSION Eph 4:27 KJV Neither give place to the devil. Give no place to the devil; in other words, don't give the devil an opportunity for him to operate. When you give him a small opportunity, you'll be shocked what he can do with it. Make good use of these weapons and yearn to grow in them. God bless you Dennis Nemi
